SURGE Study participant guide to your ClinCard

Why ClinCard?

ClinCard offers a convenient way to receive your study payments, either as a physical card or a virtual card. You can use it online, add it to your mobile wallet for in‑person purchases, or pay with the physical card anywhere Visa is accepted. You also have the option to transfer funds from your ClinCard directly to your U.S. Bank account. During the informed‑consent process, you’ll be able to choose whether you’d like a physical or virtual ClinCard.

Virtual Card

  • Look for an email with the subject line “Your Virtual ClinCard has arrived.”

  • Open the email and click the “Access your card” button. This will take you to the ClinCard website.

  • You will be asked for an access code. Enter your birth year in four digits.

  • The next screen you see will have your 16-digit card number. Make sure to copy this number down, as you will need it to register your account.

Physical Card

  • Your physical card will be mailed to the address we have on file.

  • Once it arrives, open the envelope and follow the instructions provided by ClinCard.

  • You’ll need to sign the back of the card and call the activation number included in the materials. During the call, you’ll be asked to confirm your date of birth and the last four digits of your card.

Register Your Account

  • Once you’ve accessed your card number, navigate to the home page and follow the steps to register your account.

  • You will be prompted to enter your 16-digit card number and full birthdate, and to create a username and password.

  • Once you’ve created your username, you’ll be able to log in to your account.

  • Now that you have registered your account, you can view your account balance, change account settings, and easily transfer money from your ClinCard account to your U.S. bank account.​​​
